Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ticket to Learning secular?

Yes! Our curriculum is not built from the perspective of a particular religious belief system. That being said, we also don’t shy away from discussions about religion or religious beliefs. When a unit’s primary literature selection contains characters who practice different religions or belief systems, we will provide resources and opportunities for your family to explore and discuss those systems and customs. We believe that understanding various systems of belief helps us understand one another as human beings. As with everything in our units, you can decide if these activities are appropriate for your family, or if you want to skip them.

What homeschool style does Ticket to Learning ascribe to?

We create literature-based unit studies by taking inspiration from various traditional  and homeschooling philosophies. We also work to stay up-to-date on the latest educational research. Let me tell you a secret though: kids don’t read the research. Even if they did, they aren’t robots. By pulling bits and pieces from philosophies like Charlotte Mason, Thomas Jefferson, Waldorf, Montessori, Unschooling, The Science of Reading, and more, our hope is that you can find methods and strategies that work well for your unique learners.

Using the Curriculum

What if we don’t end up liking the main literature selection?

Choose another selection that aligns with the topics you’re interested in, and pick any activities from the Adventure Guide that align with what you’re reading. Of course, you can abandon the unit, but we don’t think you have to! Each Ticket to Learning unit comes with extensive booklists.

What if we read the book faster than suggested?

Read the literature selection at a pace that is comfortable for your family. If that means moving faster than you get through the lessons, go for it. You can choose other books from the master book list that are interesting to your family and continue your read-aloud time with those. Keep the main literature selection close at hand so you can refer back to it if you need to for any of your activities. Find the flow that works best for you.

Can I teach my whole family with one unit?

Maybe. This depends on several factors, including the ages of your students. Our units are tailored to specific age groups based on the content of the literature selection for each unit. We try to include activities that cover a large range of academic abilities, but no single unit is intended to be used with children that range from kindergarten through high school. Each product listing will indicate if the unit can be adjusted to include older or younger students than those in the target range. Over time, we hope to increase our unit offerings so it will be easy to explore overlapping units with a broader range of learning ages.

How long does it take to get through a unit?

Based on feedback from users, a unit can take anywhere between one and three months. Our units are created to be flexible and can be used as a supplement, your full curriculum (aside from math), or anything in between. We include various sample schedules to give you an idea of how to make each unit work in the timeframe you prefer.

How many units do I need for a full year?

This will vary depending on how you use the unit, but we recommend 4-5 units per school year.

Product Information

What happens when units are updated?

While we try to keep unit updates to a minimum, we may need to update resources, book lists, or make changes to any given unit. When a unit is updated, the files available in your user account will automatically be updated. We may or may not give notice of an update, so be sure to download any PDFs you may not want to have updated.

Do you offer printed versions of the curriculum?

We know that printing curriculum can be expensive and time-consuming. We offer a printed version of our Adventure Guides as a convenience. These are printed and spiral-bound in-house, priced at cost, and sometimes have minor imperfections. Our hope is that providing this service will make your homeschooling experience easier and more affordable.

Why do you print on colored paper?

It’s important to us that our curriculum is easy for everyone to read and use. For people who struggle with dyslexia or other reading difficulties, stark white paper can sometimes make reading more difficult. For this reason, we designed all of our curriculum with a pale gray or ivory background in mind. If you need your Adventure Guide printed on white paper, please reach out to us at, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

What do I do if a link doesn’t work?

Things on the internet change all the time. As such, it’s possible that a link will go dead. If that happens, check the lesson links page found on the first page of each lesson in your Adventure Guide. If the link provided there still doesn’t work, please contact us at so we can fix it.

How long will it take to receive my physical products?

We will have orders packed and ready to ship within 2-3 business days. Shipping usually takes 5-7 business days. If you need an order faster than this, please email us at and we will do our best to help you.

Do you ship internationally?

Our international customers are important to us. Due to differences in customs laws and our shipping software, we do not have international shipping options available for standard orders. If you are an international customer and would like to have physical products shipped to you, please email us at and we will do our best to work with you.

What is your return policy?

No curriculum is a perfect fit for everyone. To help you decide if our units are right for you, we offer a complete three-week sample of every unit for you to try out before making a purchase. We encourage you to take full advantage of these samples. We do not offer refunds on our digital products.

We also offer detailed video demos of our physical products to help you decide if they are right for you. Physical products that are unopened/in new condition may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Shipping fees cannot be reimbursed and you will need to pay return shipping.

If a product has a defect that affects its usability, you can send us documentation (e.g. a short video) and we will replace the defective portion at no cost to you.
